In the service industry, you buy from people and not companies. So what better way to show you the people behind Hive Creative than spotlighting each of them in turn? Someone has to go first, and David is the least camera shy so let’s start with him!
What is your role at Hive Creative?
My main roles are to speak to clients, manage projects, generate new business, write some of the more “out there” copy, think through solutions to issues for clients, avoid making as many rounds of tea as I can and generally forget to pay the NI contributions until a fortnight after they were due since the silly rule change.
Before working at Hive what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I still have it, working with Father Christmas to make sure the Grotto at Frost’s in Woburn Sands is the best in Milton Keynes!
What can you tell us about your life outside of the work?
I do a lot of theatre and comedy, I’m a professional pantomime writer and the uncontested winner of MK Theatre’s “Dame Academy” which they ran around 10 years ago but never again (which counts as a continuing win in my book!).
Motto or personal mantra?
Owning the business just means you get to choose WHICH seven days you work a week!
I’m happiest when
I’m writing comedy or people have forgotten I’m home and let me play on my games consoles!
What I fear most…
People will discover how many times a year I watch “Love, Actually”.
I’m proudest of…
The achievements of my family, both academically and as people. Oh, and my Ghostbusters Ecto-1 LEGO model.
Favourite sports or pastimes?
eSports! When I’m wearing my Playstation VR headset I can outrun anyone!
The top 3 highlights of my life…
I’m probably supposed to put “getting married” or “having children”, right? If I mentioned a hot chicken sandwich with peanut butter on freshly-sliced bread I’d look pretty shallow, right? Well, that.
People would be surprised to know…
I do a great Scooby Doo impression.
If I could do it all over again, I would…
Have I mentioned eating that chicken sandwich?
Favourite memory?
Is the chicken sandwich getting too repetitive now? Certainly repeats on me when there’s too much peanut butter.
Have you any pets, if so what?
Whomsoever is my current pet! I own two cats, Poppy and Triforce. Poppy is the best for stroking, Triforce is the best for stealing my dinner.
Favourite musicians, movie, book, or comedian?
Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams and early Pet Shop Boys.
Best holiday?
10 night cruise in the Caribbean. The morning I spent on a beach in Costa Rica is still the best place I have ever stood on the planet.
Favourite vehicle?
My current car is a Citroen C4 Cactus which I’m really enjoying (because I like alliteration) but I used to love my Daewoo Matiz, especially unfolding out of it!
Before I die I would like to…
Live longer.
